Unaccompanied Minor Travel on Azul
Learn how our service works and everything you need for a safe trip (rules, documents, how to purchase, and recommendations).
Have you heard about our unaccompanied minor service?
It's an option to ensure that the minor is supervised and accompanied by an Azul professional before, during, and after the flight.
Before boarding, for example, one of our Crew Members receives the child or teenager at the check-in counter to safely escort them to the aircraft. Additionally, we provide the minor with a kit containing all the documents they brought for unaccompanied boarding, already checked and cleared.
During the flight, one of our Crew Members is also responsible for accompanying them.
Generally, minors are seated in the front rows, to be even closer to our crew.
Finally, upon disembarkation, a Crew Member accompanies them to the guardian indicated by the person who requested the service.
This service can be mandatory or optional, due to the special attention from our crew, and it has a fee. These details may vary depending on the travel destination, as shown below.
Check fees:
Fee for acquiring Azul's unaccompanied minor service: R$ 250.00*
In Brazil, the service is mandatory for minors between 8 and 15 years and 11 months and optional for minors between 16 and 17 years and 11 months. In South America, the service is optional for minors between 12 and 17 years and 11 months.
*The service fee is contracted per traveler. This means that if more than one minor is on the same flight and the service is mandatory for the age group, it must be contracted individually for each one. Additionally, it is important to know that the fee is charged per flight.
Remember: on flights within Brazil, the minimum age for minors to travel unaccompanied is 8 years. For flights outside Brazil, the minimum age is 12 years. Learn more about this and other rules:
The rules may change depending on the destination or age of the minor:
- Can minors of any age travel unaccompanied? On flights within Brazil, we do not transport children up to 7 years old unaccompanied by a legal guardian. On flights outside Brazil, this limit is up to 11 years old;
- What is the age considered for unaccompanied minors? On flights within Brazil, children and teenagers from 8 to 17 years old are considered. On flights outside Brazil, minors from 12 to 17 years old are considered;
- Can the minor travel unaccompanied on any flight? Only on direct flights operated by Azul (whether in Brazil or abroad) and not part of Azul Conecta routes. For connections, only teenagers from 16 to 17 years old who do not use the unaccompanied minor service are allowed to travel unaccompanied;
- Is the unaccompanied minor service mandatory? It depends on the destination or age of the minor. On flights within Brazil, the service is mandatory for minors from 8 to 15 years old. For destinations outside Brazil, it is optional for minors from 12 to 17 years old. Remember: teenagers from 16 to 17 years old who optionally contracted the service can only board direct flights;
- What happens if the service is mandatory and not contracted? In these cases, the minor can only board accompanied by a legal guardian on the same flight or without contracting the service.

Is everything in order with the documentation?
Before heading to the airport, make sure you have all the necessary documentation and keep it in a place that is easily accessible. This way, at check-in, our Crew can check the documents more quickly.
Avoid delays for check-in
Arrive early at the airport to check-in at our service counter. Depending on the time and demand of the flight, there may be queues.
Follow the boarding
If you are the minor's legal guardian, we recommend staying at the airport until the aircraft takes off. This way, in case of unforeseen events (such as delay or flight cancellation), you can provide the necessary support.
Count on the Ônibus Azul!
We provide transportation for unaccompanied minors from 16 years old and their legal guardians who want to accompany or pick them up at the airport. Learn more about the Ônibus Azul here.
You can also travel with the minor!
In these cases, it is important to pay attention to the necessary documentation, as it may vary depending on the destination and the degree of kinship with the child or teenager, as shown below.
For example, if you are a relative of the minor (different from parents) and intend to accompany them on flights within Brazil, it is necessary to present the birth certificate (original or copy). This way, it will be possible to prove the degree of kinship. And if the minor is 12 years old or older, it will also be necessary to present the ID, in addition to the certificate.
For flights outside Brazil, it is necessary to present:
- For minors accompanied by both parents: travel authorization is not required;
- For minors accompanied by one parent: authorization from the parent who is not boarding (Consular, Judicial, or Notary - similarity or authenticity);
- For minors accompanied by a relative, a third adult, or an emancipated minor: authorization from both parents or guardians (Consular, Judicial, or Notary - similarity or authenticity).
